Retail Impressions: Enforcer Engine in NHL 14

Under The Code’s coverage of the full retail version of EA SPORTS NHL 14 continues as Paakaa10 takes a closer look at the game’s revamped fighting mechanics, better known as the “Enforcer Engine.” Since the NHL franchise moved on to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, fighting had become very polarizing through the introduction of “First Person Fighting.”  When this take on fighting was first introduced, many gamers had positive responses to the fresh take on the physical part of the game and the ability to see fights happening from your player’s perspective.  However, just as many—if not more—gamers soon grew tired of the first-person view in these fights, particularly how all of the other players on the ice seemed to just disappear from the game altogether for the duration of the fight.  Even worse, the process of starting fights led to unrealistic hitting after the whistles, making the entire construction of fights problematic for fans of the franchise.
